The Six Pillars of Faith (Arkān al-Īmān)
A professional educational poster explaining the Six Pillars of Faith (Īmān) for beginners, reverts, and Islamic studies learners.
Faith in Allah guides the heart and soul.
Īmān is not just what you say. It is what settles in the heart, shapes the mind, and governs the choices.
The Prophet ﷺ defined it precisely in the famous ḥadīth of Jibrīl.

Belief in Allah (God) – The One who alone deserves our worship, love, and trust.
The Six Pillars of Faith (Īmān) form the foundation of a Muslim’s belief and worldview. They guide the heart and mind, reminding us to believe in Allah alone, trust His angels, follow His revealed books, honor His messengers, prepare for the Last Day, and accept the wisdom of Divine Decree (Qadar). Together, they provide meaning, purpose, and spiritual guidance for both new Muslims and knowledge seekers striving to understand the essence of Islam.
- 1. Belief in Allah (ﷻ) This is not merely believing that a god exists. It is to believe that Allah alone: Exists necessarily (not created, not dependent) Is perfect in His Names and Attributes Alone deserves worship, obedience, love, fear, hope, and reliance Depth: Allah is not like creation: “There is nothing like unto Him.” (Qur’an 42:11) He is near, yet above creation. He knows what you hide before you think it. He gives even to those who deny Him. For reverts: Islam doesn’t ask you to imagine God—it asks you to recognize Him. Impact on life: True belief in Allah frees you from: People’s opinions Fear of loss Worship of status, money, or self
- 2. Belief in the Angels (Malāʾikah) Angels are real, unseen beings, created from light, who: Never disobey Allah Have specific duties Do not act from desire or ego Examples: Jibrīl (Gabriel): Delivered revelation Mīkāʾīl: Responsible for provision and rain Isrāfīl: Will blow the Trumpet Kirāman Kātibīn: Record every deed Malak al-Mawt: Angel of death Depth: Nothing you do is “unnoticed.” Your life is documented in real time. Impact on life: This belief builds: Consciousness (taqwā) Accountability Dignity in private actions
- 3. Belief in the Revealed Books Allah revealed guidance throughout history: Torah (Tawrāh) Psalms (Zabūr) Gospel (Injīl) Qur’an (Final, preserved revelation) Depth: The Qur’an is not revised revelation It is Allah’s direct speech Preserved word-for-word by divine promise: “Indeed, We have sent down the Reminder, and We will surely preserve it.” (15:9) For reverts: Islam doesn’t reject previous prophets—it restores their original message. Impact on life: The Qur’an becomes: A compass for morality A mirror for the soul A judge over desires
- 4. Belief in the Messengers Allah sent messengers to every nation: Adam, Nūḥ, Ibrāhīm, Mūsā, ʿĪsā… and Muḥammad ﷺ Core beliefs: They were human, not divine They conveyed the message faithfully Muḥammad ﷺ is the final messenger Depth: The Prophet ﷺ is not just a historical figure. He is: A model for worship A guide for character A mercy sent to humanity “We sent you not except as a mercy to the worlds.” (21:107) Impact on life: Following the Messenger gives Islam a lived form, not abstract theory.
- 5. Belief in the Last Day (Ākhirah) This belief transforms how you see everything. You believe in: Death The grave Resurrection Judgment Paradise & Hellfire Depth: Nothing is meaningless. No injustice is permanent. No tear is wasted. “Whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it.” (99:7) Impact on life: This belief: Gives patience in hardship Stops despair Makes moral choices logical Without the Last Day, life becomes absurd.
- 6. Belief in Divine Decree (Qadar) This is the most misunderstood—and most powerful pillar. You believe that: Allah knows everything before it happens Everything occurs by His will Humans still have choice and responsibility Depth: Qadar does not cancel effort. It gives meaning to effort. You act. Allah decides the outcome. You trust Him either way. “What struck you was never meant to miss you.” Impact on life: This belief cures: Anxiety Regret Arrogance Hopelessness
